out of system transfer t-shirt
merch for nyc anti-folk band
coming out the woods with my whole damn pack!
I had the privilege of designing a t-shirt for Out of System Transfer, a Brooklyn-based band self-described as Gonzo anti-folk punk rock radical leftist hootenany. Sweet.
At the time, their album “Just Be Loud” had just come out, and while the whole album is spectacular, one song — “Weird Old Man” — really stuck out to me.
The song is a true hootenanny about how when the revolution finally comes, we’ll probably be weird old men with bad backs or creepy old witches living in the woods. I particularly loved this verse:
“When the revolution comes, I’m gonna have like ten huge dogs… But when I get the call that it’s the time to attack, I’ll be coming out the woods with my whole damn pack. When the revolution comes, I’m gonna have like fifteen huge dogs and it’s gonna be so awesome!”
So I presented a couple of different ideas, including the pack of dogs coming loose, and the band loved that direction.
It started out like the above image with just an idea, and then I rendered it out. I added in some halftone shading to make the design more interesting, even though it was only going to be one color.
And then Bushwick Print Lab printed up some awesome t-shirts.
